Helen has over 25 years experience of working in the environment and has been practicing as an independent ecologist specialising in bats since 1996. A brief time working with a large environmental consultancy broadened Helen's skills and experience in the area of ecological clerk of works. Since November 2006 Helen's practice (Wild Surveys Ltd) has been providing an ecological consultancy service giving advice in relation to all protected species from survey through to licensing and mitigation for a variety of clients and projects. Ranging from BAE, Scottish Power, several Local Authorities to individual clients working on small projects.
As well as being qualified to master’s degree level (MSc Environmental and Sustainable Studies), Helen holds NatureScot (formerly Scottish Natural Heritage) Bat Licences, including a BLIMP licence (Bat Low IMPact licence) and is also a Bat Worker for NatureScot as well as being an active member of the Clyde Bat Group.
Helen also holds NatureScot licences for birds, badgers, great crested newts and otters, and is a named agent on a colleague’s barn owl licence. She is a fully qualified tree climber (NPTC CS38), a full member of CIEEM and holds a current and valid CSCS card.
Helen is closely involved with the running of WSL’s projects on a daily basis and as well as managing a number of projects for WSL directly herself, she is available to oversee her employees’ work and provide specialist support to them when needed, thereby ensuring that all WSL projects are completed to a high standard.
Emma Is our office administrator and is responsible for the everyday running of WSL’s office and the management of staff in the absence of Helen. She is also responsible for our tendering process, bookkeeping, Health, Safety & Wellbeing monitoring, scheduling of works and ensuring staff training is kept up to date. She is also responsible for ensuring WSL’s procedures remain compliant with the requirements of our ISO9001 and ISO14001 certifications.
Emma has over 7 years of experience working in business administration, including implementing and monitoring quality, environmental, H&S and data protection procedures. She also has a background in management accounting and holds 4 ACCA qualifications (Accountant in Business, management Accounting, Financial Accounting & Corporate & Business Law) as well as a BSc (Hons) International Development, Environment & Society. She also holds a NEBOSH Award in Health & Safety.
Robbie has been working with Wild Surveys as an experienced and licensed bat surveyor and ecologist for the past 5 year. During this time he has gained valuable experience managing the ecology aspects of small and large scale projects and providing support to junior members of the team.
Robbie is a fully qualified tree climber (NPTC CS38), holds an NatureScot bat licence, is a named agent on Helen’s licences for badgers, birds, great crested newts and otters, is a qualifying member of CIEEM and holds a current and valid CSCS card .
Chloe has over 7 years of experience working in ecology and holds an MSC in Quantitative biodiversity, Conservation and Epidemiology as well as a BSc(Hons) in Zoology. She is a named agent on Helen’s licences for badgers, bats, birds, great crested newts and otters and is a qualifying member of CIEEM
Morna is responsible for the technical review of our survey methodology and of the reports produced for each project by our ecologists. She has over 20 years of experience carrying ecological surveying work and producing reports to a high standard.
Declan has just over 2 years of experience working in ecology and has recently graduated with a BSc (Hons.) in Zoology. He is an active member of our team and always keen to further his knowledge and experience. He is a fully qualified tree climber (NPTC CS38), a named agent on Helen’s licences for badgers, bats, birds, great crested newts and otters, is a qualifying member of CIEEM and holds a current and valid CSCS card.
